Speech Act Analysis of Prayer in the Holy Qur’an with Emphasis on Its Educational Foundations

Abstract

Interdisciplinary studies in the field of the Holy Qur’an and its examination require exploring the achievements of various sciences, utilizing Qur’anic indications, and identifying the relationship between its teachings and these disciplines. Linguistics can be considered one of these sciences, as it has found diverse applications in the humanities and has also acquired a distinctive position in Qur’anic studies. One of the approaches within this discipline that has received comparatively less attention in the study of the Qur’an is cognitive linguistics. This field adopts an approach that regards language as a means of uncovering the human cognitive system and is recognized as one of the major branches of contemporary linguistics. Cognitive linguistics has developed innovative methods for analyzing various texts, including religious texts and especially the Holy Qur’an. Furthermore, it helps prevent potential interpretive errors that may arise when exegetes substitute one expression for another and guides them toward understanding the conceptualizations embedded within each Qur’anic expression as they truly are.
